What is an electric vehicle?
Battery Electric Vehicle are vehicles that are only powered by an electric battery.
Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles are vehicles powered by both a gasoline engine and an electric battery that uses an EV charger to recharge.

Hybrid Electric Vehicles cannot be charged by electricity and are therefore, not EVs, but are more efficient than vehicles that only use internal combustion engines (ICE) for propulsion.

Maintenance
The battery, motor, and other parts of the electrical system require little to no maintenance. Brakes are used fairly sparingly due to regenerative braking, so brakes are typically checked for rust more than for wear.
Performance
Electric motors have a controlled torque of 0 RPM, meaning they have instant acceleration from a standstill stop. EVs also use regenerative braking, which means stepping on the brake can recover up to 10-15% of energy to the battery.
